Jaipur is the state capital of Rajasthan in northern India . The city is 300km southeast of Delhi. It is nicknamed the “pink city” because of the color of the walls of the old city.

The best time to go is either in the spring (March / May) or in the fall (September / November, after the rainy season).

Attractions to See in Jaipur

Jaipur is a city with many monuments, all located in the old town. The easiest way is to move on foot. A good day can visit the main places. You can then continue your stay by a day around the city. Here again you will have nice surprises!

  1. Hawa Mahal

The Palace of the Winds dates from the end of the 18th century and was built by the maharajah of the time. The architecture of this building is a mix of Rajput and Mughal architecture.

This pink sandstone palace with many small windows allowed the women of the harem to watch the street and the daily life of the city without being seen. The openwork facade was also used to circulate the air, hence the name Palace of the Winds.

  1. The City Palace

The City Palace dates from the middle of the 18th century and has undergone many changes and evolutions over the following centuries. Part of the Palace is still inhabited today, the rest is open to the public.

Pink walls, golden and green paintings, drawings of peacocks, small statues of Ganesh, furnished rooms, we take full eyes during the visit!

  1. The Astronomical Observatory, Jantar Mantar

The Observatory is composed of several impressive instruments by their size and their ingenuity (sundials, astrolabe).

The Jantar Mantar has been on UNESCO’s heritage list since 2010 and is the largest astronomical observatory in the country.

Amber Fort

The Amber Fort is about ten kilometers from Jaipur. Located on a hill, it dominates Lake Maota and imposes with its stone walls. Inside the enclosure, we pass courts and rooms, we get lost and we admire the colors, the carved details, the windows.

Jal Mahal

The Jal Mahal is located 8km from Amber Fort, in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, hence its name “Palace on the Water”. This is another example of a fusion of Rajput and Mughal architecture.

The tombs of Maharajahs, Gaitor

Gaitor consists of a set of funerary monuments of Kachhvaha princes and Maharajahs. The dome kiosks were built in marble or stone, at the places of cremation. It includes the cenotaph of Jai Singh II, leader of the kingdom of Amber in the eighteenth century. The place is uncrowded and peaceful. It is a very pleasant visit.

Shiromani Temple

This Hindu temple dedicated to Krishna, Vishnu and Meera Bai (Krishna devotee) was built at the beginning of the 17th century. Do not miss the sculptures on the outside walls. Again, it is a peaceful and soothing place.
